No other place in Greece has been related so much to art as Tinos.

The island offered to the newly-established modern Greek state the founders of its artistic tradition.

Tens of sculptors, painters, woodcutters and engravers served the fine arts and honoured our country worldwide.

However, the sub-layer of such scholar art tradition was hundreds of technicians using the chisel that gave again the marble the prestige it had in the classical times.

But it was not the abundance of the raw material that created such a unique art tradition.

Other places had marble too, only that they have not made known so many artists and technicians.
